Why Join Bournemouth Chess Club?
A Few Key Points.
A Friendly, Inclusive Atmosphere
We pride ourselves on being an approachable and inclusive club. New members are always welcome, and you don’t need to be a strong player to join — just an interest in chess and a willingness to learn.
Improve Your Game
Playing regularly against a range of opponents is one of the best ways to improve. Our members are always happy to offer advice, analyse games, and help newer players develop their skills in a relaxed, constructive way.
Competitive & Social Chess
For those who enjoy competition, we take part in local league matches and tournaments. If competitive chess isn’t your thing, you’re equally welcome to come along just to play friendly games and enjoy the social side of the club.
A Community, Not Just a Club
Bournemouth Chess Club is more than just chess boards and clocks — it’s a community. Many of our members have been with the club for years, and we value the friendships and shared passion that bring us together each week.

Junior Chess at Bournemouth Chess Club
We run weekly junior chess sessions for children aged 7–18, focused on learning, enjoyment, and steady improvement. Our sessions are suitable for both complete beginners and more experienced junior players.
Our coaches teach the rules and fundamentals of chess, along with basic opening principles and tactics — and, most importantly, we emphasise good sportsmanship, confidence, and positive play.
If you’d like to find out more about our junior chess sessions, please feel free to get in touch with the club using the Get in Touch feature linked below.
